Reflecting on the Life of Joe Bonsall of The Oak Ridge Boys

I just got the news that Joe Bonsall, longtime member of the OAK RIDGE BOYS has passed away. (Pictured in white next to me)
I first met Joe through the gaither platform, Gaithernet, years ago. It was similar to Facebook in how it operated. I messaged Joe and told him how much I enjoyed the music of the Oak Ridge Boys growing up. I also shared that I was in Christian music ministry.
Joe, then, became an instant encourager to me. I sent him my first CD at the time and he texted me to let me know what he thought of it. So kind. I then let him know I would be at the NYS Fair in 2009 where he invited me backstage to meet all the Oaks, since they were the music of my childhood. Both of my parents were ballroom dance teachers. I listened to a lot of country and pop music growing up.
It was such a neat experience to meet all the guys, bandmates, and crew! And to watch the concert LIVE from the side of the stage! This is also where I met drummer and artist, Chris Golden (son of William Lee Golden) for the first time. We would later go on to work together and he would go on to produce my current "Hymns" CD.
Wonderful connections and memories were made at this event. Joe would continue to encourage me, sporadically, over the years. If he saw a particular post, or heard some good news, he would send me a text to congratulate me. He always called me "SA." Likewise, I would send a note of encouragement to him, too, from time to time. It is a blessing to have peers who cheer you on in the music industry, even greater when they are some of your childhood heroes.
The Oak Ridge Boys gave an incredible performance that day... especially Joe. Non-stop energy from start to finish.
However, Joe has now finished the race. He certainly gave all.
